Micro-Habits of High Impact Managers
Tanmay Vora
Managers are linchpins who have a big impact in building an organizational culture where people thrive. High-impact managers are those who are adept at driving high-level agendas without losing focus on small things (that are actually big things) that go on to define good leadership.
This focus on soft aspects of leading people, building trust and creating high-performance ecosystem was never more pronounced than now. Leaders carry a responsibility to ensure their team’s physical as well as mental well being, while enabling them to do their best work.
“Your first and foremost job as a leader is to take charge of your own energy and then help to orchestrate the energy of those around you.” – Peter Drucker
In this context, I recently read the article “25 Micro-Habits of High-Impact Managers” that contains some very useful insights from First Round Community. In context of these micro-habits, the article emphasizes on importance of small actions executed consistently to create bigger results:
… in our experience, most management advice tends to focus on tackling the biggest chunks: assembling high-performing teams through hiring, delivering tough feedback and checking in regularly.
…sculpting a magnificent piece of art also relies on the finer chiseling work of shaping that rock, bit by bit. After all, it’s the smallest movements and the intricate detail work that makes a statue worthy of display in a museum. However, this tends to be overlooked.
Here is a hand-written sketchnote summary of 25 micro-habits of high-impact managers:

The ideas in the PDF are compiled in 2012, but they are even more relevant today given the context of remote working and challenges of building trust.
