Spending time with/for yourself
Tanmay Vora
I came across a very beautiful photo blog of Suresh – excellent photographs coupled with some very nice thoughts to ponder over.
In one of the posts, Suresh asks:
When was the last time you spent time with yourself? When was the last time you just did nothing but watched birds, smelled flowers, felt breeze, hummed a song and felt like dancing?
On the same lines, I came across another post by Ramon Padilla over at TechRepublic blogs where the author asks another thought provoking question “What have you done for YOU lately?”
It is very easy for us to get trapped into the daily conundrum and we forget to think about our own well being. As Ramon rightly says, we often place ourselves at the back of the line when it comes to our well being, personal development, vacations and doing things for ourselves.
Here is an extract from the post on a few things you can do for yourself:
- Be happy with your job – if you are not, try fixing things that make you unhappy.
- Take vacations – recharge and refocus. Spend good time with your family.
- Remain healthy and fit.
- Don’t be professionally stagnant – keep learning, keep thinking.
- Count your achievements – be proud of them.
- Deal with people who make your life miserable.
- Don’t try to do more and more with less and less. Get the right resources required to be successful.
- Communicate about your department, your unit and work in general – share what you do else be taken for granted.
- Know what makes you successful or unsuccessful at the job. Know the rules you have to play by.
- Thank your people.
Points to ponder over the weekend – have a great weekend!
