Some Recent Conversations

Here are links/excerpts of some of the recent conversations I had with some of the blogging community friends – topics are diverse, so are thoughts!

Stickyminds.com is running an very useful article “How to be persuasive” by Naomi Karten. Persuasion is an important career skill which has to be based on clarity of thought, articulation and trust.  Naomi says:

“The starting point in being persuasive is to build trust and credibility so that when you seek to persuade, people will give you a fair hearing.”

One of the important pre-requisites for persuation is to be articulate – both in verbal as well as written communication. When trying to persuade, it is also important to think about potential questions that may be ask and be prepared with the right responses and neccessary facts. Timing, when persuading is also very crucial.

Lynn Gaertner-Johnston has an excellent business writing blog. In her post “Things that make us feel good” she emphasizes on usage of words that make positive connections with the reader.  Honesty and sincerity are important pre-requisites for a writer/writing to make someone feel good.

I had an interesting dialogue with Raven Young on constructive criticism. The starting point of communication was my comment on her post “How to Handle Criticism and Get Something Good Out of It“. Criticizing constructively is an important management and personal skill. Raven’s post focuses on positive handling of criticism from someone while my earlier post “On Constructive Criticism” focuses on how to criticise constructively as a manager.
